Book Review: Finding Darwin's God

Author: Dr. Kenneth R. Miller
Spiritual Bias: Christian
Origins Bias: Evolutionist
Rating: Top Shelf
Level: Advanced

Comments: With respect to origins most people fall in either the Creationist/Christian camp or the Atheist/Agnostic/Evolutionary camp. Dr. Miller is a Christian evolutionist. Many will argue that the terms "christian" and "evolutionist" are diametrically opposed concepts and logically inconsistent but Miller demonstrates they are not. In this book he provides evidence for why he believes evolution is a "fact" yet also explains why he believes that many atheistic proponents of evolution are overstating their case when they shout that they have done away with the need for God. I don't agree with a few things in this book regarding the evidence for macro-evolution but this book is very good. It will probably challenge you if you sit on either side of the "traditional" origins fence. If the scientific evidence for evolution grows look for books like this to become more popular.

Summary Quote: "So, how is a random, chance process like evolution consistent with the will of a Creator? As physicist and religious scholar Ian Barbour, the author of a dozen books on science and religion, puts it: Natural laws and chance may equally be instruments of God's intentions. There can be purpose without an exact predetermined plan. How is it possible? I would submit that if we can see the hand of God in the unpredictable events of history, if we can see meaning and purpose in the challenges and trials of our daily lives, then we can certainly see God's will emerging in the grand and improbable tree of life."
