Author: Dr Russell Humphreys
Spiritual Bias: Christian
Origins Bias: Young Earth Creationist
Rating: Caveat Emptor
Level: Advanced
Comments: Humphreys is an astrophysicist who proposes a new theory to resolve the apparent contradiction between the 7 day creation week and the commonly accepted 12-15 billion years old age of the universe. He thinks that elements of the theory of relativity can explain the problem of light from distance stars for those who hold to a young earth perspective. This book is a bit technical for the average reader and his proposal is not well supported by observation - thus this book has been given the Caveat Emptor rating. I will only recommend this for those who are interested specifically in Humphreys' theory.
Summary Quote: "Because of the testimony of Scripture and the weight of other evidence favoring a recent creation, young-earth creationists have tried a number of theories to explain how the light from distant galaxies got here in less than 10,000 years. These have thus far not been very successful. Since 1985 I have been working on a new theory to explain this problem and other large-scale phenomenon in the cosmos, such as red shifts in the light from distant galaxies and the cosmic microwave background radiation."
