While the history of Earth has shown a tremendous amount of biological diversity, one theme that is overlooked in origins is the fact of stasis, or the lack of change.
The Chinese alligator is just one of several "living fossils" that have resisted change over millions of years.
"The Chinese alligator, also known as the Yangtze alligator, was very plentiful more than 230 million years ago, particularly on the eastern seaboard. But now, with a population of no more than 150 in the wild, it is listed one of the world's most endangered creatures."
